The Red Palace was built in 1944 by King Abdul Aziz for his son Saud the then crown prince who lived there until 1955. It then served as a government building until the late 1980s when it was abandoned. It opened last month to visitors for the first time since the 1980s as a large scale art exhibition by Sultan Bin Fahad and it’s really worth a visit. It’s open daily from 5-10pm and admission is free. The exhibits are showcased in different rooms throughout the Palace and each installation has a young Saudi stationed there who will explain things to you in English
